2010 Calendar
 
January 5-February 9 (Tuesdays 3-6pm): Kid Gourmet Specialty Camp at Middleburg Community Center - Kids will have a blast in the kitchen, learning easy and mostly-healthy recipes to try at home.  Kids will learn the skills to be more present in the home kitchen and responsible for their own healthy food choices.
 
February 4-March 11 (Thursdays 3-6pm): Silly Science Specialty Camp at Middleburg Community Center - Science comes to life in this fun camp where safe substances can be mixed to learn cause and effect. We will experiment with the laws of motion and learn a thing or two about chemistry, life science, physics and oceanography.
 
February 6 - Teen Valentine Jewelry Workshop at Patrick Henry Library
 
February 8 - Candyworks Program at Cascades Library
 
February 13 - Poetry and Short Story Workshops for Teens at Ashburn Library (1-2pm) and Rust Teen Center (3:30pm-4:30pm): One of a four-part series at two libraries between February and May to build upon writing skills using creative prompts, games, role playing and contests.  Each workshop offers a different theme, and teens can bring journals, laptops, or any writing tools they need in this cooperative, collaborative atmosphere.  Use the library for references and encourage each other to stave off writer's block!
 
March 3 - Teen Jewelrymaking at Tysons Pimmit - theme will be "conversation" jewelry using word beads.

(Guest Author and Workshop leader, Pam Soper, will lead this interactive workshop segment).
 
April 20-May 25 (Tuesdays 3-6pm) - Rhythm and Dance Specialty Camp at Middleburg Community Center - Kids will get moving to the beats inspired by dances from different genres.  We will do Hip-Hop, Street Jazz, Lyrical, African Beats, Latin and Bollywood. Bring a water bottle and comfortable clothes.  Girls should wear shorts or leggings if they are wearing skirts. 
 
April 22-May 27 (Thursdays 3-6pm) - Culture & Traditions around the World Specialty Camp at Middleburg Community Center - Take a trip around the world without even getting on a plane! Kids will learn games, songs, crafts, dances and traditions from different cultures.  Participants are encouraged to wear clothing or bring show and tell inspired by that week's country.
 
April 24 - Funny Bone Poetry and Haiku Workshop at Purcellville Library for Elementary Schoolers - Sharpening poetry skills using humor.
 
April 26 - Haiku and Concrete Poetry Workshop at Cascades for Elementary Schoolers
 
May 1 - Poetry and Short Story Workshops for Teens at Ashburn Library (1-2pm) and Rust Teen Center (3:30pm-4:30pm): One of a four-part series at two libraries between February and May to build upon writing skills using creative prompts, games, role playing and contests.  Each workshop offers a different theme, and teens can bring journals, laptops, or any writing tools they need in this cooperative, collaborative atmosphere.  Use the library for references and encourage each other to stave off writer's block!  Series end will feature a small year-end celebration and "open mike" performance.  Kids can share their poetry from the semester with each other.  Writing prompts will be shared for summer journaling.
 
May 3-5 (Mondays 3-6pm) - Musical Theatre Specialty Camp at Middleburg Community Center - Get ready for Broadway with in this fantastic 4-week workshop.  Kids will learn at least 3 musical numbers, including elements of song, acting and dance.  Children will develop their speaking skills through improve, skits and monologues.  Parents are welcome to come to the last hour of the last class for a short show.  Costumes will be inspired by clothes from home.
